General construction induction
If you're working in the construction industry, you need to complete a general construction induction training course with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
This training will give you a basic knowledge of:
- work health and safety laws
- common site hazards and
- how to control the associated risks.
The unit you need to complete is: CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.
Once you've successfully completed this unit, the RTO will issue you with your general construction induction training card (previously called a white card). You must keep this with you whenever you are on site.
Keep a note of your RTO's details and a copy of your card in your records. You'll need this information if you require a replacement card.
In Queensland, the general construction induction training card was previously known as a white card. Before this, it was a blue card.
You need to complete face-to-face training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

To replace your general construction induction card, you need to contact the RTO that issued your card.
If the RTO that issued your card is no longer operating, you'll need to contact another RTO in Queensland that delivers general construction induction training. They’ll let you know how to apply for a replacement card and any associated fees.
If you obtained your card outside Queensland, you'll need to contact the relevant Workplace Health and Safety Authority in that state or territory to find out how your card can be replaced.
You'll need to provide the RTO with:
- a statement of attainment for CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, or the previous course CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry
- a declaration stating how the card was lost, stolen or destroyed.

Blue cards
Blue cards were previously issued in Queensland as proof of training in the construction industry.
If you already have a blue card, you don't need to change to a general construction induction training card unless:
- you’ve lost your card
- you haven’t carried out construction work in the previous two years
- you’re enrolled in training units that require you to complete CPCCWHS1001 as a prerequisite, such as CPCCDE3014A Remove non-friable asbestos, and CPCCDE3015A Remove friable asbestos.
If your blue card becomes lost, damaged or destroyed, it can’t be replaced. You'll need to contact an RTO and complete the current general construction induction training course (CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry).
Once you've successfully completed this unit, the RTO will issue you with your new general construction induction training card.
Construction workers can work in Queensland using general construction induction training cards issued by other states and territories.
Queensland general construction induction training cards, white cards, and the former blue cards are also accepted throughout Australia.
Note: Old style New South Wales green cards (that are green in colour) are no longer valid in New South Wales or recognised anywhere else in Australia. If you have a green card, you'll need to complete general construction induction training - CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry to obtain a valid general construction induction training card.
