Our accredited rehabilitation and return to work program

Recovering and getting back to work after an injury or illness at work requires everyone involved to work together.

WorkCover Queensland collaborates with a worker, their employer, treating providers, and other stakeholders to get the best outcomes and help the worker to recover and get back to work promptly and safely.

Our approach

WorkCover offers a rehabilitation and return to work program for workers.

As part of this program, we manage claims within WorkCover, using an approach that recognises everyone is unique and tailors support to an individual's needs.

Research tells us that work is a vital part of recovery.

This is why we focus on identifying ways you could recover at work or return when you make a claim, even before we decide your claim.

How our rehabilitation and return to work program works

Once your claim is accepted, you’ll be welcomed into our Program. We’ll contact you by phone to confirm this and follow up with helpful information by email, so you know exactly what to expect and how we’ll support you.

If we do not refer you to the Program or if you are no longer eligible to participate in the Program (because you do not require ongoing rehabilitation and return to work support, for example), we will provide written reasons for our decision.

Under our program, workers and employers have certain rights and responsibilities they need to fulfil.

If your compensation ends and you haven't returned to work, we may refer you to take part in Employment Connect if we’re satisfied it can further assist you with your rehabilitation. You don't have to participate but we recommend it, to help you be more prepared for getting back into the workforce.

Rehabilitation and return to work plans

Under this program, we will work closely with you to create a tailored rehabilitation and return to work plan that is focused on your specific goals and sets out your path to recovery.

A copy of the plan will be shared with you, your employer, and your treating healthcare provider to ensure everyone is on the same page. By working together, we can gain a deeper understanding of your injury, address any challenges you may be facing, and identify the support you need to help you recover successfully and return to work safely.
