Renew/reinstate electrical worker licence

Planned Outage: The Office of Industrial Relations is performing system maintenance which affects the Electrical licences (ELIS) online service. This service will be unavailable Tuesday 23 May 2017, from 7.30pm to 8pm for approximately 30 minutes. During this time users will be unable to apply for, renew or replace a high risk work licence.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Your electrical worker licence is valid for five years, unless it is cancelled or suspended. You must have a current licence to do electrical work.

If your licence is due to expire and a renewal notice has not arrived in the mail, phone 1300 362 128.

If the licence is renewed within 12 months after expiry, the renewed licence will be issued with an expiry date five years from the original expiry date.

If your licence expired over 12 months ago, see electrical worker licence recognition.

Step 1: Skills Maintenance

To renew your licence, you need to have kept your basic skills up-to-date in:

  • electrical safety legislation
  • risk management
  • testing
  • resuscitation.

A Skills maintenance is available online.

Registered training organisations also deliver a number of approved skills maintenance courses.

Step 2: Online Renewal

To use online renewal you must keep your rescue and resuscitation skills current. You must prove you can resuscitate a person who has stopped breathing, or is unconscious, because of electric shock.

The renewal also includes payment options of credit card, bank transfer or direct debit.

Use this online Renew electrical worker licence application to:

  • renew a Queensland electrical work licence due to expire
  • reinstate an electrical work licence which has expired in the last 12 months.

Before you start make sure you have your:

It will take approximately 10 minutes to do your application online. To complete your application you must send all supporting documentation and pay the $75.70 licence fee.

  • fax
  • email.
