Sunwater

Category five – Best commitment to work health and wellbeing

Sunwater’s Healthy Workforce Framework aims to foster an open and engaging work environment where their employees thrive both professionally and personally. Sunwater achieves this by educating and supporting their employees through proactive health initiatives, health and hygiene management and injury management across the employee lifecycle of pre-employment to retirement.

In July 2020, Sunwater identified the need for a strategic approach resulting from COVID-19 related risks, a lack of understanding of health and hygiene risks and inconsistent injury management process. Therefore, they established a Health and Wellbeing Advisor position.

The benefits of Sunwater’s gradual development and implementation of mental health initiatives and programs over the past two years is reflected in their cultural pulse survey data:

  • 71 per cent of employees are positive about leadership at Sunwater
  • 82 per cent of employees believe their leaders display care when it comes to the safety and wellbeing of their people
  • over the past financial year, Sunwater’s employee engagement increased from 63 per cent to 79 per cent.

Sunwater plans for longevity in their program and sees embedding of health and wellbeing knowledge, awareness, and processes as fundamental to the success of the organisation. This requires a long-term vision where initiatives are given time to be embedded within Sunwater. This vision determines the annual strategic activities and supports the wider long-term planning that supports Sunwater on its health and wellbeing journey.
