In response to a spike in the number of reported incidents at Eagle Alliance Earthmoving, the management team and their large subcontractor workforce joined forces to identify the root cause of the issues and improve their safety culture.
After enrolling in the Queensland Government's Injury Prevention and Management (IPaM) Program and completing a gap analysis, Eagle Alliance Earthmoving had access to statistics and data the business had never measured before. They also gained insight into the pressure their clients were feeling to deliver services and the attitudes of the 'old timers' who were complacent about safety.
With a new big picture perspective, Eagle Alliance Earthmoving set clear goals and tactics to implement a three-year safety project. The plan included rapid and dramatic changes to systems of work and documentation to clarify roles, responsibilities and expectations while simplifying processes.
They hired a team of full time professionals to keep the business on track, invested in education and consultation and demonstrated to clients that prioritising safety would ultimately save them time and money.
Eagle Alliance Earthmoving gained accreditation for ASNZS 4801:2001, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 9001:2015, making it the first earthmoving company in South East Queensland to receive this accreditation.
