Category five – Best commitment to work health and wellbeing
G&S Engineering Services provides professional asset management services to the resources, energy, ports and infrastructure sectors.
G&S Engineering Services has incorporated its values into its mental health strategy and uses this to drive decision making and prioritise work. The #HANDSUP initiative proactively addresses the psychological health of the young, male-dominated workforce. With unwavering support from senior management, strategies and activities are designed to:
- raise awareness through education
- reduce stigma
- encourage help-seeking behaviours
- support management, individuals, families and the community
- encourage positive job roles and working environments.
The short film 'I Know Someone' is supported by a toolkit of resources which promotes a safe environment to openly discuss mental illness by reminding workers that 'they are not alone' and encouraging individuals to put their hand up, speak up, take action and seek help. The film features people from G&S Engineering Services and their families discussing their experience with mental illness to deliver a strong personal message.
#HANDSUP is a call to action that has had a positive impact on organisational culture, improved attitudes towards mental illness and increased the skills of G&S Engineering Services' workforce in identifying and managing psychological health.
