Category eight – Best rehabilitation and return to work management system
Griffith University has a dedicated team of injury management professionals with allied health backgrounds that have successfully integrated their rehabilitation and return to work policies into safety management systems.
Strong management commitment is evident in strategic return to work initiatives that go beyond a standard early intervention approach and demonstrate organisational empathy for injured workers. Such initiatives promote modern accommodations like flexible work arrangements, a wellbeing program and creative internal adjustments. For example, Griffith University support staff with disability or chronic illness who are struggling with the physical requirements of their role and provide specialised equipment to keep their workers at work. Some of the equipment provided to staff include a mobility scooter, kinetic office chair, overbed desk and reclining chair.
Griffith University has created a positive return to work culture by establishing manager accountability and educating staff about the benefits of return to work or stay at work for worker recovery.
