Australian Agricultural Company

Category four – Most significant improvement to work health and safety performance

Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) owns and operates Australia's largest heard of cattle. Recognising that while the health and welfare of employees is of the utmost importance, the majority of employees and contractors work in a kinetic environment where there is an inherent safety risk. Over time, AACo's safety culture had transformed to one of a compliance tick box and had lost touch with what was important to the organisation, their people, animals and the environment.

Recognising this, AACo developed the '1AA Safety strategy' which forms the foundation of the Company's strategic plan and makes physical and mental health an operational imperative. The 1AA program helps employees identify safety through ‘brand’ recognition and aims to create a shared culture of beliefs while identifying personal accountability towards safety and a safe workplace.

When they launched the 1AA program, AACo communicated the new brand in a simple, engaging, and fun way using merchandise and animation to convey key messages. This approach supported the key focus areas of culture through leadership, behavioural safety, control critical risks, health and wellbeing, and streamlining their safety systems.
