Firefighter shares his WorkCover story

When firefighter Bruce Beasley was diagnosed with prostate cancer his world fell away. But he got onto WorkCover straight away.

“It was fantastic, the help I got from WorkCover,” he said.

Bruce says he was able to get the best doctor at the best hospital in Queensland to look after him. Under special coverage, active firefighters who are diagnosed with one of 12 types of cancers may be able to claim workers' compensation benefits.

“That takes a load off your mind, you're dealing with enough when you're told you've got cancer so the fact that I didn't have to worry about a bill was the biggest thing,” Bruce said.

“I'll be honest with you, I thought having to deal with WorkCover when it all happened scared me and it couldn't have been easier. It was the easiest thing I've done.”
