Transport and Storage ISSC communique: March 2026
The Transport and Storage Industry Sector Standing Committee (the Committee) met on Tuesday 17 March 2026.
The Committee continued discussions on the development of transport and storage sector safety case studies. Members considered work tasks for case study inclusion, refining the development of case study resources and considering the use of higher order controls such as design. Members agreed to continue out of session work on case study development, including further investigation of additional case study content.
Members considered the impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on the transport and storage sector and discussed the impacts broadly from a work health and safety perspective.
The Committee noted the release of the Queensland Productivity Commission (QPC) Report – Opportunities to improve productivity of the construction industry (QPC Report) and the Queensland Government’s response to the QPC’s final report. Members noted the QPC Report has broad application outside of the construction industry, and noted that the recommendations could impact work health and safety in the transport and storage sectors.
Members agreed that the transition from workplace exposure standards for airborne contaminants (WES) to workplace exposure limits for airborne contaminants (WELs) could be challenging for industry and that additional detailed guidance would be welcomed.
Members observed that the impact of the 2026 Middle East Conflict could escalate, leading to uncertainty and business continuity concerns for the transport and storage sectors.
The next meeting of the Committee will be held on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
