Electrical Safety Board and committees

The Electrical Safety Board and its committees are established under the Electrical Safety Act 2002 to enable industry and community consultation about electrical safety.

Electrical Safety Board

Our primary function is to give advice and make recommendations to the Minister about policies, strategies and legislative arrangements for electrical safety. This includes the promotion of electrical safety in places of work and the community to raise awareness of the potential risks of electricity and ways to improve electrical safety.

Our secondary function is to give advice and make recommendations to the regulator, the Electrical Safety Office, about the energy efficiency and performance of electrical equipment.

Chaired by the Commissioner for Electrical Safety, we are made up of the regulator and six board members equally representing employers, workers and the community. Read about our current Electrical Safety Board members.

We are supported by the following three electrical safety committees.

Electrical Licensing Committee

Our function is to give advice and make recommendations to the Electrical Safety Board about electrical licences and training. We also take disciplinary action against electrical contractors and workers and review decisions made by the regulator about electrical licences.

Chaired by the Commissioner for Electrical Safety, we are made up of four committee members representing employers, workers and the community. At least one of our members is a licensed electrical worker or an electrical engineer.

Consultative committee for work-related fatalities and serious incidents

Our purpose is to provide:

  • advice and recommendations to the Minister for Industrial Relations about the information and support needs of people impacted by work-related deaths, serious incidents and illness
  • a forum where Queenslanders impacted by work-related deaths, serious incidents and illness can connect and share information.

The committee is established under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and its members are appointed by the Minister for Industrial Relations. All members have either suffered the loss of a loved one or have been seriously injured through a work-related incident. The committee meets quarterly.
