Industry Sector Standing Committees

On 15 February 2024, chairpersons and members were appointed to six Industry Sector Standing Committees (ISSCs) for a term ending on 12 September 2026.

ISSCs are consultative committees established under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld) with the primary function to provide advice and make recommendations to the Work Health and Safety Board about workplace health and safety in the relevant industry sectors. ISSCs use their industry networks to consult on industry-specific work health and safety issues and to promote and distribute work health and safety information.

There are six ISSCs in total, one for each of the following industry sectors:

  • construction
  • health and community services
  • manufacturing
  • retail and wholesale
  • rural
  • transport and storage.

Each ISSC consists of a chairperson and at least six other members (equally representing employers and workers, and may include expert members).

The membership of each ISSC is as set out below.

As of 20 May 2024, the Minister may establish up to ten ISSCs by issuing a gazette notice.

Calling for Expressions of Interest for the Work Health and Safety Industry Sector Standing Committees

The Office of Industrial Relations (OIR) is seeking nominations for consideration by the Minister to fill current and future vacancies on the Industry Sector Standing Committees (ISSCs).

Who should nominate and how?

Nominations are invited from persons with practical experience and competence in the management of WHS in the relevant industry sectors. Nominations are forwarded to the Minister for consideration and OIR advises applicants of the outcome following the Minister’s decision.

In appointing a person as a member, the Minister not only considers the person’s practical experience and competence in the management of WHS, but seeks to appoint both men and women members, and must ensure equal representation of worker and employer representatives.

In addition, the Queensland Government supports diversity and inclusion on Queensland Government committees and OIR strongly encourages nominations from people who are located from across Queensland’s regions, and those who bring a range of skill and perspectives — including suitably qualified women, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other diverse groups.

Those wishing to nominate, are invited to do so via email at OIRBoardsandCommittees@oir.qld.gov.au. Nominations are requested no later than 10 October 2025.

Nomination Details Required

When submitting nominations, nominees are asked to provide:

  • The Industry Sector Consultative Committee/s of interest in priority order
  • proof of identity (copy of current driver’s licence (front and back) or passport)
  • nominee’s current resume (including, where relevant, if they belong to any diversity group/s, such as persons from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, Aboriginal, South Sea Islander or Torres Strait Islander people)
  • written confirmation that your organisation endorses their appointment (see attached template for completion (See Attachment A) (PDF, 0.91 MB)
  • completed personal particulars form (see Attachment B) (DOCX, 0.03 MB)
  • completed public sector employment and statutory appointments form (see Attachment C) (DOCX, 0.03 MB); and
  • completed criminal history check form (see Attachment D) (PDF, 0.73 MB).

Completion of these forms is required to be eligible for consideration for appointment by the Minister.
