Five-yearly review of the Concrete pumping Code of Practice 2019

The Concrete pumping Code of Practice 2019 (the Code) was varied following a five-yearly review as required under section 274 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. These updates come into effect from 1 July 2026.

Code review information

The Code is a Queensland-specific code and is not based on a national model code of practice.

It provides persons conducting a business or undertaking with practical guidance on how to comply with their health and safety duties when carrying out construction work involving concrete pumping. The Code includes information about:

  • who has health and safety duties in relation to concrete pumping
  • information, training, instruction and supervision
  • registration of concrete placing booms
  • planning and preparing for concrete pumping operations
  • risk controls for concrete pumping plant and equipment
  • inspection and maintenance
  • safety equipment.

As the Code underwent a comprehensive review between 2017 and 2019, updates following this recent review were limited to:

  • technical updates, for example, including relevant information from safety alerts issued by the Queensland Government in the last five years (safety alerts cover key risks and hazards for equipment, workplaces or work situations and are developed in consultation with industry).
  • editorial changes to improve readability, ensure legislative consistency and update any outdated references.

Consultation information

Public consultation for this review occurred between 12 September and 10 October 2025 and 17 submissions were received and considered when updating the Code.
