Spotlight on worker’s compensation fraud
Fraud poses an unacceptable risk to the integrity and sustainability of the Queensland workers’ compensation scheme, and Workers’ Compensation Regulatory Services is stepping up its response.
A dedicated taskforce between the Office of Industrial Relations and WorkCover Queensland has been set up to target fraud.
The Regulator actively investigates and prosecutes workers, employers and providers who defraud the scheme. Since 1 July 2025, eight prosecutions have commenced, and five prosecutions have been successfully finalised. Three of these were against workers for fraud and two were against employers for providing false information. All three workers were sentenced to imprisonment, and the employer company was fined $95,000.

You can help protect the scheme by being honest with your insurer, reminding workers to report any work they do while receiving compensation, and alerting your insurer if you believe a worker is working elsewhere while claiming benefits.
