New safety tool for driving at work

The time spent in our vehicles as part of our jobs is a health and safety issue that can be influenced by system factors and individual pressures. The Department of Main Roads has developed a new tool to help manage the risks of work-related driving.

The Driver Safety Maturity Model (DSMM):

  • provides a high-level overview of the different organisational maturity stages towards integrating road safety initiatives into work-related driving approaches
  • includes a range of controls associated with managing safe driving from a legislative and better practice perspective (which can be used to embed safety within work-related driving practices)
  • provides a guideline for organisations to consider as part of their approach to managing work-related safety risks
  • helps to identify a range of policies, practices and checklists that can strengthen workplace health and safety controls.
