School student farm safety calendars up for grabs

With a record number of entries in this year’s Farm Safety Calendar Competition, anyone wanting a free calendar has been urged to get in quick to secure their copy in October.

There were almost 2000 entries from primary school students all over Queensland making this a record-breaking year, with the most entries since the competition began.

Judges from the Queensland Country Women’s Association, AgForce Queensland, North Australian Pastoral Co, Department of Education, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and Electrical Safety Office have selected 12 winners to be announced in October.

The winners are from prep to year six, with each of the 12 winners receiving a $250 gift voucher for themselves and $500 for their school. Winning entries in the calendar feature creative and colourful illustrations about electrical safety, animal safety, tractor and machinery safety, quad bike safety, water safety, and health and wellbeing.

The calendar competition raises awareness among primary school students and their communities of common hazards on farms and other rural properties. The published calendar is an opportunity for safety messages to be displayed in the home throughout the year, reminding Queenslanders of all ages to work and play safely on farm properties.
