New films to keep rural communities safe from electrical dangers

The Electrical Safety Office has produced five short films to remind rural communities to stay safe around electricity.

The films will be released in October and will be available at Electrical Safety website, but you can check out the trailer now.

The films’ tagline, ‘Electricity is invisible, so you can’t see the danger…but it can kill’ is a stark reminder that many Queenslanders are being killed or seriously injured by electricity. Over the last year alone there have been 22 serious electrical incidents in Queensland – three of them fatal.

Electrical safety is a particular concern in rural communities, with the most common risks on Queensland properties being contact with overhead powerlines, using unsafe electrical equipment and not having safety switches installed on all electrical circuits. The five films cover:

  • Getting to know your switchboard
  • How to test your safety switches
  • Shocks, tingles and nuisance trips
  • Electrical equipment safety
  • Overhead powerlines and underground cables.
