Call for public submissions on silica dust risk management

Safe Work Australia is calling for public comment on a consultation regulation impact statement on managing the risks of respirable crystalline silica (silica dust) at work.

This Consultation Regulation Impact Statement: Managing the risks of respirable crystalline silica at work (CRIS) has been developed to seek feedback from stakeholders and the general public on the impact of regulatory and non-regulatory options to manage the risks of respirable crystalline silica at work.

The options outlined in the paper have not received approval by WHS ministers and are not yet law. This paper is only a guide as to how the options address the problem and might be implemented.

The consultation process seeks to gather additional evidence and data on the extent of the problem and to seek views on the impact of the proposed options. In addition, there are several targeted consultation questions to consider when making a submission, but there is no obligation to answer any or all of the consultation questions, and there is no limit to the length of submissions.

Submissions can be provided until 11.59 pm 15 August 2022.
