Worker falsified documents during his claim and gained compensation and payments as a result
|
|---|
| Facts | In February 2023, the defendant made a claim for compensation for an injury to his back. The claim was accepted by WorkCover Queensland (WCQ). During his claim, the defendant defrauded WorkCover or attempted to defraud WorkCover by: - Submitting 13 fake invoices for travel and medical treatments. WorkCover initially reimbursed the defendant for these, but subsequent attempts were flagged and denied.
- Submitting two fake "capacity for work" certificates using a doctor’s name without their consent. When confronted, the defendant said the certificates were legitimate and accused the doctor of being unprofessional and keeping poor records.
- The defendant created a fictitious physiotherapist identity, submitting both treatment records and invoices under this fake alias to secure further payments.
