Compliance campaign targets falling objects
From February 2026, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland will begin a statewide proactive compliance campaign targeting the risk of falling objects in the construction industry.
Ensure that you have safe systems of work in place to address risks associated with falling objects. Documents to support your risk management processes could include:
- work health and safety management plan
- safe work methods statements
- toolbox talks
- pre-start meeting records
- high risk work licences
- any relevant training records.
If you have the following plant on your site, check that it is installed and maintained in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 or the manufacturer’s instructions:
- cranes
- formwork
- hoarding
- gantries
- scaffold
- elevating work platforms
- cantilevered crane loading platforms
- tilt-up and/or pre-cast concrete panels.
Now is a great time to check that your workers have had up-to-date information, training and instruction on plant and the associated risks with falling objects.
See the previous eSAFE Construction article for more details on falling object controls.
