Falling objects compliance campaign coming in 2026
In early 2026, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) will begin a statewide proactive compliance campaign targeting the risk of falling objects in the construction industry.
If your business is involved in construction, now is a great time to review how you manage falling object risks, particularly when undertaking activities such as:
- crane lifts
- erecting or dismantling scaffolding
- formwork installation
- use of cantilevered crane loading platforms
- use of elevated work platforms (EWPs)
- tilt-up / precast concrete installation.
Examples of effective falling object controls include:
- establishing and maintaining exclusion zones
- perimeter containment screening
- hoarding or gantries
- catch platforms and toe boards
- good housekeeping and material storage practices.
These are just some of the controls available, and the right control mechanism will depend on your site conditions and the work being performed.
