Case 13

On 26 June 2008, the worker lodged an Application for Compensation alleging he sustained a fracture to the radius of his right forearm on 3 June 2008, whilst working as an apprentice mechanic.

On 10 July 2008 WorkCover accepted the claim and benefits were paid from 24 June 2008 to 1 February 2011 totalling $58,549.

During the period 24 October 2008 to 27 March 2009, the worker undertook work as a security guard/crowd controller at various venues through an external security services provider.

On 24 March 2011 the worker pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months imprisonment wholly suspended for the fraud charge and three months imprisonment wholly suspended for five false and misleading charges to be served concurrently for an operational period of 18 months. He was ordered to pay restitution of $58,549 and costs with a conviction recorded.
