Retail and wholesale ISSC communique: November 2025
The Retail and Wholesale Industry Sector Standing Committee (Committee) met on Tuesday, 24 November 2025.
Members received a heat stress presentation from the Office of Industrial Relations (OIR). Members discussed the need to educate employers and workers on heat stress and noted OIR’s resources and tools on heat stress – Heat stress – including the heat stress calculator which is applicable to all environments including retail spaces [see WHS eTools : Heat Stress Calculator]. Members agreed that heat stress guidance information should be provided to industry as soon as possible and welcome the opportunity for consultation on heat stress guidance material in 2026.
Members supported the work being undertaken by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland in considering ways to make Health and Safety Representative (HSR) training relevant to a HSR’s workplace, with practical implementation information. Members will seek to identify any relevant retail sector case studies that could be developed for HSR training.
The Committee noted:
- legislative developments Australia-wide regarding Workplace Protection Orders; and
- Safe Work Australia’s model fatigue code of practice (code) which members agreed to review out of session.

- Safe Work Australia Six Month Update
- Strategic Communications update
- OIR data report.
The next meeting of the Committee will be held on Thursday, 19 March 2026.
