Traffic and event safety checklist

Events like school fetes, markets, festivals, fairs and sports days often mean pedestrians, vehicles, rides, deliveries, and volunteers are in the same area.

Everyone involved in the event may not be trained in traffic control. Without proper planning, risks can escalate quickly.

To help support safer events, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has developed the Traffic and Event Safety checklist (PDF, 1.32 MB) — a practical resource designed for schools, local councils, parents and families, Parents and Friends associations and community event organisers.

The checklist helps event organisers identify common traffic and pedestrian risks and how to put simple, effective controls in place.

The resource also guides event organisers on developing a traffic management plan that includes:

  • site maps
  • emergency access information
  • event roles and responsibilities
  • restrictions on vehicle movement during busy crowd times.
