Asbestos management compliance audit now underway
Does your business sometimes work with Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM), or do you know when your business premises was built? If it was constructed before 1990, it’s likely that asbestos may be present.
Since 1 August 2025, and for the fourth consecutive year, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) inspectors have been conducting statewide audits of businesses operating from buildings likely to contain asbestos, as well as those that handle or store asbestos. The audit will run up until 31 October, 2025.
It doesn’t matter what kind of business you run or how modern your building may appear, if it was built before 1990, asbestos could still be present.
These audits are focused on supporting businesses to meet their responsibilities under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Part 8.3 Management of asbestos and associated risks).
This includes having an asbestos register and management plan in place where asbestos has been identified. Where needed, inspectors may take enforcement action such as issuing statutory notices or on-the-spot fines.
If you haven’t already, now is the time to check the age of your premises and make sure your business is meeting its legal obligations.
Taking action now helps protect the health and safety of your workers and contractors.
