Agriculture compliance campaign starts October 2026

From October 2026, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) will begin a statewide compliance campaign focusing on the safe use of fixed plant in the agriculture industry.

This campaign forms part of the WHS Compliance and Field Services Proactive Compliance Program 2024–2027 and supports WHSQ’s commitment to safer workplaces across Queensland.

If you operate an agricultural business, now is the time to review whether your workers are adequately protected from the risks associated with fixed plant.

Consider tasks involving pallet wrappers, carton sealers, packaging and labelling machines, conveyor systems, product lines, fruit washing equipment and refrigerants in cool rooms.

Review how your fixed plant is operated and maintained, and ensure appropriate controls are in place, including:

• adequate guarding
• machinery isolation
• safe systems of work, including documented procedures for operating, cleaning, isolating and maintaining fixed plant
• worker training and supervision
• safety systems (emergency stops, interlocks and alarms).
