Safety messages delivered direct to regional Queenslanders

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) has continued to reinforce safety messaging around the state by engaging face-to-face with rural and agricultural stakeholders.

WHSQ was a sponsor of this year’s Ekka Beef week, which celebrates Queensland’s industry in the week prior to the Ekka.

Beef Week was held at RNA Showgrounds from 4-9 August. Our presence at Beef Week was about more than livestock—it was about engaging directly with the people who power the state’s agricultural sector and reinforcing our ongoing commitment to protecting their health, safety, and wellbeing on their properties.

On 6-8 August, we also attended the bi-annual Australian Banana Industry Congress at RACV Royal Pines resort on the Gold Coast with more than 70 per cent of delegates attending from Queensland.

The event is a priority for those in the banana supply chain to attend and provides a unique opportunity to access rural stakeholders in the more remote regions of the state.

The next stop was the AgroTrend Farming Life held in Bundaberg on 12-13 September. This event saw interactions with agricultural employers, suppliers, workers and influencers providing guidance and information on infectious diseases, plant and machinery safety, hazardous chemicals and safety management systems to name but a few.

Electrical and Workplace Health and Safety inspectors visited four primary schools across Queensland to share important electrical safety messages with primary school kids during Electrical Safety Fortnight.

A total of 275 students across Mackay, Petrie, Robina and Toowoomba heard key safety messages from Inspectors and took home our new farm safety trail activity sheet. This hands-on and age-appropriate resource makes learning about safety fun and engaging.

These school visits are a part of our ongoing commitment to visible, mobile engagement in regional communities.
