Know your duties - a tool for working safely

Everyone in the workplace has work health and safety duties. Safe Work Australia has published a tool to find out how to meet these duties as a PCBU or worker, as well as managing risks from hazards you may face working in the agriculture industry.

The tool is relevant for agriculture businesses that grow and cultivate horticultural and other crops (except forestry) or breed, raise or farm animals (except aquaculture).

Included is a range of common industry hazards and risks that a PCBU, a worker, or someone who is both could experience:

  • agricultural hazards
  • general duties that apply to all industries under WHS laws
  • specific duties that apply to the agriculture industry under WHS laws
  • managing the risks associated with agriculture.

The agricultural hazards tool includes plant, quad bikes, chemicals, animals, noise and dust. There is also a section on mental health, as well as electrical work, and working outdoors, remotely or in confined spaces.

Each guide also includes supporting information on model codes of practice and infographics on noise and sound levels.
