Delivering better mental health outcomes for Queensland’s agriculture community

Queensland Mental Health Week ran from 4-12 October 2025, falling within Safe Work Month.

As part of Mental Health Week, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) delivered the Mental Health in the Agriculture industry webinar on 8 October 2025, bringing together 394 attendees from across the sector.

Safety officers, WHS advisors, healthcare professionals, workers and employers across Queensland's agriculture industry joined us to explore practical ways to support mental wellbeing on the land.

Attendees heard from leading experts with lived experience who shared evidence-based strategies to help create safer, healthier workplaces in rural and regional Queensland.

The webinar continues to be accessed, with the recording viewed more than 557 times, and the slides available for participants to apply the learnings in their own workplaces.

The session featured Dr Tim Driscoll, clinical psychologist and State Manager for Mental Health at the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland section), alongside panellists Ruth Thompson from AgForce Queensland and Jasmin Smith from the Queensland Farmers’ Federation.

Together, they unpacked the mental health challenges facing agriculture workers and highlighted everyday actions that go beyond crisis response.

These insights are designed to support people working in regional and remote areas to identify psychosocial hazards early and strengthen wellbeing across their teams and communities – focusing on what we can do day to day to build healthier, safer workplaces for ourselves and those around us.
