Stay resuscitation ready
Workers involved in electrical work must always maintain current competency in rescue and resuscitation.
Under section 211 of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2026, a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must ensure workers who are required to perform, or help in performing, electrical work are competent in rescue and resuscitation in line with recognised practices in the electrical industry.
A PCBU must ensure that any work on, or near energised electrical equipment is carried out in the presence of a safety observer, where required. A safety observer is required to be competent in rescue and resuscitation of a worker who is carrying out the work if necessary and has been assessed in the previous 12 months as competent to rescue and resuscitate a person.
For licensed electrical workers, current resuscitation competency is also a condition of holding and renewing a licence. The Electrical Safety Office regularly conducts audits on licence holders and you may be required to provide a copy of the certificate of competency if requested.
Do not treat CPR like a tick box at time of licence renewal, keep your training up to date, stay confident in your skills, and be ready to act when it counts.
