Workers’ Memorial Day 2026 - Honouring Queensland workers who have lost their lives
Tuesday, 28 April will be a solemn day of reflection as it marks Workers’ Memorial Day as well as World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
Workers' Memorial Day honours workers who have lost their lives or been seriously injured or fallen ill due to their work.
It is an annual day for the community to unite through grief and to remind all Queenslanders of their right to go to work and come home safely as workplace incidents and diseases are preventable.
One life lost at work is one too many. From 1 March 2025 to 31 March 2026, OIR was notified of 32 work-related fatalities, of which 23 were workers and nine were bystanders.
Behind every statistic is a person as well as a devastated family and community.
The annual ceremony is a joint initiative of the Consultative Committee for Work-related Fatalities and Serious Incidents and the Office of Industrial Relations.
The Queensland Workers’ Memorial and Honour Roll commemorates Queensland workers who have died as a result of a work-related incident, disease, or illness.
It is a place where people can publish tributes to loved ones who have lost their life to a work-related injury or disease.
