Farm safety calendar competition winners announced

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland’s annual farm safety calendar competition winners have been announced with a record breaking 2,514 entries with more than 140 primary schools across Queensland!

The competition that combines artistic fun with serious safety messages was open to all Queensland primary school children from prep to year 6 to deliver awareness around potential safety hazards on farms and rural communities.

Each month identifies a different safety theme with the 12 winning entries ranging from prep to year 6 students from the Sunshine Coast, Darling Downs, Hervey Bay and Southwest Queensland, and North and Central Queensland regions.

Electrical safety messages play a prominent role, with two months being dedicated to important reminders.

The March winner was Vincent Benz, a Grade 2 student from Texas State School, who drew solar panels on a roof with the message “keep away from solar panels because electricity is dangerous”.

The May winner was Alaina Carmichael, from Woombye State School. The Grade 4 student drew a picture of machinery on a farm, with the message “overhead powerlines are dangerous. Don’t play, park equipment, operate machinery or plant trees or crops near them!!!”

Around 40,000 copies of the calendar will be printed for statewide distribution. The 12 winning entrants receive a $250 gift card and $500 for their school.

The calendars are in high demand each year so don’t miss out. Go to the WorkSafe website to pre-order your copy and for more information about the Farm Safety Calendar competition including past and present winners.
