Important update: Electrical licence application or renewal

The Electrical Safety Office (ESO) has received multiple inquiries about using licence cards as proof of a current electrical licence.

ESO maintains an official register of all electrical licences. This register is the most reliable source to confirm whether an individual holds a current electrical worker or contractor licence—especially if a licence card is not available. You can access this register via the 'Find a licensed electrician' tool.

If you apply for a new electrical licence or renewing an existing one, you will receive a confirmation email once your application is approved. Your licence status will then be immediately visible on the Electrical Licence Holder Search.

Additionally, you can download an extract of your licence from the register to provide proof of your current licence status, when needed.

Note: A licence card is only a representation of your electrical licence and should not be solely relied upon to verify the status of an electrical licence.
