Upcoming asbestos compliance audits for Queensland businesses
From 1 August 2025, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) inspectors will begin auditing businesses operating from buildings constructed before 1990 and those likely containing asbestos. The statewide audit will run until 31 October and will focus on compliance with asbestos management requirements, including having an asbestos register and a management plan in place where asbestos has been identified.

Calling for Expressions of Interest for the Work Health and Safety Industry Sector Standing Committees
The Office of Industrial Relations (OIR) is seeking nominations for consideration by the Minister for appointment to a new term of the Industry Sector Standing Committees (ISSCs). The primary function of the ISSCs is to give advice and make recommendations to the Work Health and Safety Board about workplace health and safety in the relevant industry sector. The ISSCs meet at least four times a year.

Updated Workplace Exposure Standard for Aluminium Welding Fumes
The workplace exposure standard (WES) for aluminium welding fumes has been reduced from 5 mg/m³ to 1 mg/m³, measured as an 8-hour time-weighted average. This change is now in effect.
