Benchmarking and measurement of safety masterclass

This masterclass will discuss the methods available to measure safety, including:

  • lag indicators, such as counts of injuries, accidents and near misses
  • behavioural observations
  • performance indicators for safety processes
  • safety culture and safety climate surveys
  • “maturity” models and other management system assessment tools.

This masterclass provides a critical review of theory and practice in the area of safety measurement. It covers the strengths, weaknesses, assumptions and limitations of each mechanism for monitoring safety performance, along with practical suggestions for how to get the most out of safety measurement.

This masterclass is presented in partnership with Griffith University by Dr Drew Rae.

Dr Drew Rae
