Safety Leadership Challenge Mid-Point Event
The Safety Leadership Challenge is an innovative demonstration project involving Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) partnering with three construction companies to improve work health and safety outcomes through a focus on safety culture and leadership. Senior management at Icon Co, McNab Constructions, and BMD have all undertaken a Safety Leadership Challenge. Actions taken so far include working with WHSQ to evaluate their safety culture and beginning to plan and implement improvement initiatives. These activities have generated many learnings and it is now an appropriate time to share these with broader industry to inspire others to follow their lead and improve safety culture.
WHSQ invites you to attend an after-work event that will provide an update on the progress of the Safety Leadership Challenge, hear directly from the leaders involved around their challenges and solutions, and showcase the next round of free industry resources developed by WHSQ to support safety culture evaluation and change efforts.
Hosted by Mr Trevor Love, Director of Aussafe and Adjunct Professor at University of Queensland, the event will feature a facilitated question and answer panel, followed by audience participation. The evening will conclude with an opportunity to network with peers and interact directly with the participating leaders.
Mr Ben Bowden, Operations Manager at Icon Co will share the actions undertaken to restructure and improve the functioning of the WHS Committee at the Buranda site, as well as efforts to raise workforce awareness of the role and responsibilities of health and safety representatives.
Mr Michael McNab, Managing Director at McNab Constructions will outline the activities planned and underway to increase the involvement of project and site managers in work health and safety.
Mr Peter Anusas, General Manager at BMD will describe the approach he is taking to improve the management of temporary works.
