WorkCover monitors trends in the treatment and use of item codes through analysis of state-wide data. This helps us to ensure workers receive optimal quality of care, their return to work outcomes are maximised and costs are balanced for employers whilst we maintain a financially viable scheme.
We've worked with various allied health providers and associations to review payment trends after we noticed inconsistencies in surgery billing.
To clarify these areas, guidelines have been developed. Our people use these guidelines in approving requests for surgery and invoices for surgery to treat these injuries. These guidelines are also used for post payment data analysis to identify ongoing payment trends and issues.
