Tracy Bignell, Townsville City Council

2019 SWRWA Winner

Category nine – Best individual contribution to rehabilitation and return to work

Tracy Bignell takes an open, caring approach to managing rehabilitation and return to work with the goal to minimise stress or uncertainty when injured workers are making a workers' compensation claim or require a suitable duties program.

Tracy prides herself on being consistent and fair with each and every case. She always encourages workers to voice their ideas or concerns when identifying suitable duties. Tracy collaborates with experts and uses facts and evidence to develop strategies that are suitable and specific for each worker. In her quest for continuous improvement, Tracy shares and celebrates success stories and key learnings with her peers.

Recent examples of Tracy going above and beyond include visiting injured workers in hospital in her own time, hosting an injured worker herself and even looking after an injured worker's dog. Tracy strives to continually improve communication and streamline processes. Following an injury or safety incident, Tracy will immediately review safe work method statements, work procedures, job task analysis and personal protective equipment with the goal of reducing the risk of similar injuries or incidents occurring again.
