Category three – Best solution to an identified electrical issue

Luke Shipperley, HSE Manager at Icon Co identified the risks posed by unstable power boards on building construction sites. These boards are the point where mains power is available to the construction site. They can become unfastened, moved or even fall over, exposing workers to live power.

To make power boards on construction sites safer, Luke drew on his experience and presented an engineering control for the risks. The solution is a bracket made from steel and attached to the formwork. The suggestion was taken on by the site team and implemented with immediate success.

Since introducing the bracket on sites, no boards have been damaged, removed, or have fallen. As the board is elevated in the bracket, it allows work to continue under and around it.
