Category eight – Best rehabilitation and return to work management system
FK Gardner Group's (FKG) Executive Management demonstrate leadership and a commitment to the strategic management of rehabilitation and return to work through and direction to their HSEQ mangers and teams. FKG's safety management system and return to work policy and procedures are clearly defined, user friendly, and easily accessible by all members of the workforce. Including:
- the formulation of policies
- developing plans and procedures
- site visits, toolbox talks and audits
- fostering a culture of understanding that workplace rehabilitation is a priority and is available to all FKG Group members and subcontractors.
A system was developed and implemented by FKG's internal IT team that alerts key personnel (including the RRTWC and management) of an incident or injury via email. FKG also developed a work capabilities checklist/suitable duties plan in conjunction with WorkCover Queensland and medical practitioners to overcome barriers to the belief there are no suitable duties in the construction industry. FKG views incidents as opportunities to improve the way they approach and undertake work and encourages workers to report incidents and injuries honestly.
