Category three – Best work health and safety practices in small business
Metro Facades specialise in installing building facades, particularly glass curtain walling.
Senior management worked with engineers and staff over a number of years to create the 'launch pad', a system to install glass curtain walling from inside a building with the use of miniature cranes.
The design of the launch pad and the associated plant allows workers the freedom to perform installation activities without the need to wear a fall arrest system. Workers no longer need to manually install glass panel that can weigh up to 400 kilograms.
The system eliminates the need for workers to be exposed to falls from heights and reduces the need for workers to hold, restrain, position and manoeuvre the panels.
Metro Facades have reduced risks and injuries and their clients enjoy quicker installation times, resulting in improved production, higher profits and healthy, happy employees.
