Category seven – Best workplace health and wellbeing initiative
Brisbane Motorway Services (BMS) operates and maintains the CLEM7 road tunnel in Brisbane. The company has managed over 13,000 operational incidents and 200,000 maintenance activities since opening in 2010.
BMS faced the difficult challenge of developing a health and wellbeing program that would engage both their baby boomers and generation Y employees. The program is designed around one of BMS core principles of 'look after your mates', to embrace a team environment and promote shared learning through activities including:
- safety selfie competitions
- healthy eating workshops
- peer recognition and rewards program.
Management fully embraced the program by allocating a minimum of four hours per week for the development, monitoring and review of the program.
Up to 75 per cent of employees have participated in the health and wellbeing initiative and the majority continue to be involved in each new activity.
