Nathan is an agricultural teacher and has been teaching since 2003. He was teaching a class of year 12 students horse-riding skills when he was thrown off a horse in a sand yard and landed on his head. He required a halo device for three months, a C1:C2 fusion of his cervical spine and then medication and rest at home for eight months.
Nathan was completely off work for eight months and his return to work took another eight months to become full time. When he commenced work he took one class of year 12 agricultural science students and increased his work load from there. Nathan is now back to full time teaching and has been for six months, but is unable to return to his extra-curricular activities he was involved with at the school.
