Matthew James Fuller

Matthew James Fuller
Born 20 January 1984
Killed 14 October 2009
Age 25
Electrocuted

Matt was the first person killed in the Federal Government HIP. Matt was installing foil insulation in a domestic home, stapling the foil to the ceiling space floor, which was at that time approved by all Governments.

Matt was our only son. Matt was the most precious person in our lives, he was wanted desperately and loved unconditionally from the day he was conceived.

His tragic, avoidable and unexpected death had a huge impact on us; it nearly split the extended family. It also had profound impact on his partner, she couldn't handle it, and she had to move away for a very long time.

Matt was a sensible young man who had found his soul mate and together they were planning to get married. They needed to make some additional money so they could afford a marriage and honeymoon, natural for a young couple.

That was the whole reason Matt started work as a foil insulation installer for a Qualified Electrician. Matt saw the HIP as limited risk (it was Government sponsored & he would be working for a qualified electrician). He knew it would be a hard, dirty job with long hours.

We saw the last few months were the best for Matt. He was so happy enjoying life to the full.

There is not a day that goes by that we don't think of Matt, his partner and what his life should have been, they did not get to live their future.

Matt was a confident and capable young man needlessly electrocuted as a result of poor corporate and government management.

All Christine and I are left with are the special memories of a young Matt – but - then there is a huge void in our lives.

Matt you are in our hearts and minds until we meet again.

Love and miss you.

“We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name

In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same

It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone

For part of us went with you, the day God called you home

You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide

And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side

Our family is broken and nothing seems the same

But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again”

"If tears could build a stairway and thoughts a memory lane

We'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again

No Farewell words were spoken no time to say goodbye

You were gone before we knew it and only God knows why

Our heart's still active in sadness and secret tears still flow

What it meant to lose you no one can ever know

But now we know you want us to mourn for you no more

To remember all the happy times life still much in store

Since you'll never be forgotten we pledge to you today

A hallowed place within our hearts is where you'll always stay

God knows why, with chilling touch

He gathers those we love so much

And what now seems so strange and dim

Will all be clear when we meet Him”
