Scentre Group – Safety Never Goes out of Style
Following on from a successful Safety Week in 2015, Scentre Group will partner with WorkCover Queensland and Workplace Health and Safety to bring attention to its customers, retailers, contractors and visitors on the importance of safety.
With their management of the public spaces of five Westfield shopping centres in Queensland along with several hundred retailers, Scentre Group is committed to improving safety and generating awareness and individual ownership of risk.
During National Safe Work Australia Week, from 24 to 30 October, Scentre will host a range of safety initiatives to draw attention to safety in their centres and promote healthy discussion about this very important topic.
“Ensuring the highest levels of safety for our people, our customers and our partners is a priority for all parts of our business,” says Darren Ellis, Scentre Group General Manager Construction.
“Scentre Group creates extraordinary places which connect and enrich communities, and safety is an extremely important consideration in everything we do – providing a safe environment for everyone is paramount.
“Our Safety ethos is about ‘people protecting people’ and our focus is on supporting a generative culture of safety, where we operate to the highest standards at all times.
“Our approach is anchored in ‘visible leadership’, promoting and engaging our stakeholders in meaningful conversations and embracing new ideas to ensure all employees, retailers and customers have a safe and healthy experience in our environments, whether for work, shopping or leisure.
“We also acknowledge that a safe environment extends beyond protecting people from physical risks. This year, our focus National Safe Work Week is on Mental Health and Wellbeing, which is central to Scentre Group’s Diversity and Inclusion strategy.”
“We agreed National Safe Work Week is the ideal opportunity to share the importance of supporting positive mental health and wellness, not only with our own people but with our retailers, contractors and customers.
“We’re hosting a range of events at our centres during Safety Week and we encourage people to visit, share in these experiences and contribute to this exciting safety initiative.”
WorkCover Queensland Customer Experience Manager Kerri Melkersson is pleased that Scentre has committed itself to promoting a safe work culture, and looks forward to the opportunity for WorkCover Queensland and Workplace Health and Safety staff to be on site at several of the Westfield centres during Safety Week. “We immensely enjoy interacting with our customers, and encourage retailers and customers alike to come and have a chat with our friendly staff. We embrace any opportunity to assist our customers in identifying and promoting safe work practices, and are proud to partner with Scentre in this wonderful initiative”.
