Medical and Allied Health fee updates - effective 1 July 2021

WorkCover Queensland has updated both the Medical and Allied Health Tables of Costs effective 1 July 2021. Fees have been indexed in line with CPI and wage index increases and are now available on our website.

Medical Items Tables of Costs

Recent amendments made to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) have been included in this review. Amendments include a number of changes to service items and rules for general surgery, orthopaedic and cardiac services to implement the recommendations from the MBS Review Taskforce.

The MBS may make further adjustments to item numbers and/or fees before or after 1 July. Please refer to the fees page on our website as WorkCover will endeavour to update as quickly as possible, should this occur.

Allied Health Tables of Costs

Feedback from self-insurers, allied health associations and providers has helped inform this year’s review. Changes include:

  • Introduction of psychological services – counselling and psychotherapy. These services will improve access to much needed psychological treatment for vulnerable workers. The new Counselling and Psychotherapy Services Table of Costs outlines who can provide these services and what is expected of providers.
  • Simplifying our fee model to provide clarity around treatment and invoicing expectations. This includes improved descriptions and rules when charging for travel, communication, incidentals, and hourly rates.

These tables reflect the maximum fees payable. Please update your systems to reflect the new fees, as invoices may not be adjusted once payment is made.

Prompt submission of invoices

The Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 specifies that accounts for medical and allied health treatment must be sent to the insurer promptly and within two months after the treatment is completed i.e. from the date of service. Please submit invoices within two months, as invoices submitted outside of this time may be refused.
