Looking at buying a plant?

Before you buy plant you should check if you need to register the plant or plant design.

Step 1 - Does it require a plant design registration?

If yes, you will need to check:

  • If the plant design registration has been submitted and a design registration number was issued. This number must be supplied when you purchase the plant. You will need to keep this information on file.
  • You will need to submit an application for newly designed plant, or plant that has been modified since being registered.

Step 2 - Does the plant require plant registration?

If yes, you will need to check:

  • Has it been registered by the previous owner? If so, what is the plant registration number? You will need to keep this information on file.
  • If plant ownership changes, whoever holds the 'Certificate of plant registration' must notify WHSQ.
  • The new owner will then be required to register the plant they have just purchased.
