Electrical Safety (Codes of Practice) Amendment Notice 2019

The Electrical Safety (Codes of Practice) Amendment Notice 2019 amends the list of approved electrical safety codes of practice from 2 January 2020, adding the following three codes of practice:

These three codes of practice were previously in operation in the form of electrical safety codes of practice that commenced in 2010 and expired following 10 years of operation on 1 January 2020.

To effectively continue the operation of the 2010 codes of practice, the three codes of practice were remade as 2020 codes of practice, commencing 2 January 2020. This ensures there is no gap in coverage between expiry of the old codes and commencement of the new codes.

In comparison with the 2010 versions, the 2020 codes of practice incorporate minor amendments following reviews for technical accuracy, useability and readability, supplemented by targeted consultation with key stakeholders.

The result is continued guidance for industry and workers on electrical safety standards for the use of electrical equipment in the rural industry, for working near overhead and underground electric lines, and for the works of an electricity entity.
