Visiting the doctor
When visiting the doctor talk with them about what you could do at work. Focus on what tasks you believe you could safely complete at the workplace. Remember the doctor will issue a medical certificate based on their examination and the information given by you.
You can have someone from your workplace present to assist and support you when visiting the doctor. It is typical for a doctor to speak with you independently at the commencement of a consultation to obtain a history of your medical condition.
Most doctors are happy to discuss return to work options with you and an employer representative at end of a consultation or ask your treating doctor to discuss with your employer what tasks they think you could do at work.
If follow up visits to a doctor occurs keep the doctor informed on any options to undertake suitable or different duties that will assist in returning or remaining at work.
