    • Voice over: Workers in remote or isolated areas on properties are at risk if they don't have good communication options available to them.

If an incident were to occur, the chances of a quick rescue become less likely without good communication principles being applied.

Being remote or isolated doesn't necessarily refer to distance from a homestead, it can include working alone at night doing an irrigation shift, or even working away from the main group of workers.

An employer is obliged to provide effective communication with their workers.

Tell someone where you're going before you go and what time you'll return.

Have a call-in plan to make sure someone knows if you're changing location or about to commence a dangerous task.

Establish a policy for your property so all your workers and visitors understand their responsibilities.

      In addition:

      Install two-way radios in vehicles.

Have portable options available such as a satellite phone or two-way radio or an e-pirb distress beacon.

      Keep first aid equipment handy.

Include a list of emergency numbers and property GPS coordinates on a card in vehicles.

      Farm safe. Home safe.
